Giving the soldiers a face

The search for the portraits started with the discovery of Brouwer's little notebook. He recorded the names of many of the fellow POW's he portrayed, and sometimes even their addresses. The notebook contains the names of more than 200 people from all over the world. Recently Tijdlijn started an international search for these portraits and the stories of the ones portrayed. On this page we present the names of all the 200 prisoners of war that we know have been portrayed by Henk Brouwer. Besides these 200, Brouwer has drawn some 100-150 portraits of POW's yet unknown. Now, these portraits can be anywhere, hanging on the wall in a living room, stored and forgotten between someones personal belongings in the attic or kept in a small archive in the countryside.
